Obituary

William George Brett (Billy), age 57, the #1 fan of the New York Rangers, passed away on Monday, August 28, 2023 surrounded by family at UNC Johnston Health in Smithfield, North Carolina. Bill was a loving husband, father to two children and friend to all.

Bill was born on October 22, 1965 in Jersey City, New Jersey to the late William George Brett and the late Lillian Knudsen Brett. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his uncle David William Brett of Iselin, New Jersey.

In addition to his great devotion to the New York Rangers, Bill was retired from the United States Postal Service and enjoyed fishing on the boat with his uncle and cousins, golfing, kayaking, skiing, playing with grand-dogs and grand-cats, and playing hockey with his son and friends.

Bill was a loving husband to his wife of 33 years, Shirley Marie Brett. Father to Daniel Michael Brett and his wife Courtney Ann Brett, his daughter Kaitlyn Elizabeth Brett; sister Anita Benson, nephew Christopher Benson and his wife April Benson, Niece Dawn Charneco and husband Ginel Charneco, great niece and nephew; and many extended family members.
