Mark E. Gajewski Obituary

Mark E. Gajewski of Bayonne passed away on Saturday April 12, 2014 at the age of 66. Born in Jersey City, he had lived there until moving to Bayonne 24 years ago. Mark loved being a high school social studies teacher at Dickinson High School in Jersey City for 5 years until his retirement in 2012. Prior to that, he was a purchasing agent at Hartz Mountain in Harrison for 23 years. Mark enlisted in the Army in 1966 and obtained the rank of Sergeant. He is a decorated Veteran of Vietnam, proudly serving in the 25th Division, 14th Infantry. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 6, the Vietnam Veterans Chapter 151; and a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. He was an avid Jets fan, reader of history, a Civil war buff and a fourth degree Black Belt. The most important thing is that he was a proud husband, father and grandfather. Mark was predeceased by his parents, Edmund & Jean (nee Lesobey) Gajewski; and his father-in-law Frank Makowski. He is survived by his best friend and wife of 44 years, Victoria (nee Makowski) Gajewski; children, Brian Gajewski (Sergeant, Jersey City Police Department) & his wife Amy; Christopher Gajewski & his girlfriend Nicole, and Ashley Corey & her husband Adam; mother-in-law Cecilia Makowski; brother, Francis Gajewski & his wife Joan; sisters, Janet Berardi & her husband Anthony, and Barbara Costa & her husband Matthew; Grandfather of Zachary Mark, Ava Jean, Sophia Elena and Emma Kate. He will be missed by many friends and relatives alike. Visitation will be at the Dzikowski, Pierce & Levis Funeral Home, 24 East 19th Street, Bayonne on Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. The funeral will be Wednesday from the funeral home at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Funeral Liturgy at 10:00 am in St. Andrew The Apostle Church, 125 Broadway, Bayonne. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, 340 Ridge Road, North Arlington.
