On Saturday, September 6, 2014 our beloved John "Gunner" Gunshefski passed away peacefully at the age of 53. John is survived by his parents Alexander and Joan Gunshefski (nee Mackiewicz), wife Yumi Gunshefski, and his sister Patty (Tom) Callan, his brothers Alexander (Penny) Gunshefski, Ricky (Jill) Gunshefski, Bobby (Cindy) Gunshefski, Jimmy (Sandy) Gunshefski, and Michael Gunshefski, as well as his 12 Nieces and Nephews, and 10 Great Nieces and Nephews, and all his Uncles, Aunts, Cousins, and Friends. He is predeceased by his first dog Kato who he adored and leaves behind his dogs which were like children to him Bonnie, Athena, and Devo. John was born on Nov 15, 1960 in Bayonne, NJ. He graduated from Our Lady Star of the Sea and Bayonne High School. He entered the Navy in 1981 for four years and has worked at Evergreen Shipping Agency since 1991. John loved his family, traveled to multiple cities to see his favorite band Jethro Tull and was an avid Giants and Mets fan his entire lifetime. He loved fishing, biking the outdoors, and sharing his unique and positive message with anyone he came in contact with. Visitation will be at the Dzikowski, Pierce & Levis Funeral Home, 24 East 19th Street, Bayonne, on Friday, Sept. 12th from 2 - 4 & 7 - 9 p.m. The funeral will be Saturday from the funeral home at 8:00 a.m. follow by the Funeral Mass in Our Lady of the Assumption RC Church, 91 West 23rd Street, Bayonne, at 9:30 a.m. Cremation will be private. In lieu of flowers please make donations in John's memory to the Liberty Humane Society (www.libertyhumane.org), 235 Jersey City Blvd., Jersey City, NJ 07305, or the National Kidney Foundation, (www.kidney.org), 30 E. 33rd Street, New York, NY 10016.
