John Fitzgerald Casey, 1973-2024
John was born in the Greenville section of Jersey City, New Jersey, on December 28, 1963, to Francis (Frank) and Joan Cavanagh (Joanie) Casey, and was preceded in death by both of his parents. John has five siblings: Frank J. Casey, Vincent T. Casey, Kenneth J. Casey, Kristen A. (Casey) Gallucci and Robert Casey, all of whom survive him.
After living in Jersey City, John's life included joyful years residing in Florida and in San Francisco, California; he has been a return resident of New Jersey since 2003. John has been the adored and cherished partner of Paul Sibbersen since 2005 when they met in Hoboken, New Jersey. They held an informal commitment ceremony one year later to bond their lives together and have been inseparable since that date. John and Paul currently reside in Bayonne, New Jersey.
John was a masterful cook, self-trained, and his mother provided his initial training at the age of 8; his many friends will long remember his elaborate and delicious Thanksgiving dinners. He spent many of his later years catering on request because of how much his friends appreciated his food. His amazing holiday decorating and love of the Christmas season warmed that cold time of year. John was also an avid reader, always hungry for knowledge, starting his reading at a young age at the local Jersey City Public Library branch.
He was a captivating storyteller, to which his many friends will attest, always quick with a joke, and masterful at making everyone feel at ease.
