Dorothy (Riecker) Scott Obituary

Dorothy M. Scott (nee: Riecker),92, of Bayonne, NJ, passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on Friday, February 10, 2017. Dorothy was born on November 1, 1924 in the Bronx, NY, to Frederick and Amelia Riecker. She lived there until 1948 when she married Joseph E. Scott, and moved to Bayonne, NJ. Over the years, Dorothy was employed by New York Bell Telephone Company in Manhattan, Maidenform, Domenico Bus Tours, and Division of Youth and Family Services of Bayonne, retiring in 2002. Dorothy raised her family in Bayonne and spent many years actively involved in the community. She was a past member and president of St. Andrew's Rosary Society, and was also involved with St. Andrew's school activities while her children attended the school. Dorothy was also active with the St. Andrew's scouting community as a former den mother for the Cub Scouts and troop leader for the Girl Scouts. She was a member of the Holy Family Academy's Mother's Club while her daughters attended the school. She also enjoyed meetings and outings with her girlfriends in "The Club". Dorothy was an avid reader and especially enjoyed reading the comic strips in the newspaper. Dorothy will be deeply missed by her loving family. She is survived by her four devoted children, William J. Scott and his wife Janice, Margaret DiStaulo, Diane Scott, and Doreen Christopher and her husband John (Greek); nine beloved grandchildren, Danielle Kernodle (Tom), Peter DiStaulo of Chicago, Christopher DiStaulo (Laura), Mark Ciaston Jr. , Allison Shelton (Rob) of Virginia, Joey Scott, Kelley Scott, Kevin Scott, and Molly Scott; and three cherished great grandchildren, TJ Kernodle, Violet Ann DiStaulo, and Aubrey Claire Cathcart; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She will also be missed by her constant companions, her dogs, Sparky and Millie. Dorothy was pre-deceased by her husband of 41 years Officer Joseph E. Scott of the Bayonne Police Department, brother William Riecker, and son-in-law Peter A. DiStaulo. Visitation will be at the Dzikowski, Pierce & Levis Funeral Home, 24 East 19th Street, Bayonne, on Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm. The funeral will be held from the funeral home on Wednesday at 9:00 am followed by a Funeral Mass at the Parish of Blessed Miriam Teresa Demjanovich in Saint Andrews Church, 125 Broadway, Bayonne.
